Interior designer Monique Bartulovich set out to add quality and character to her cookie cutter central Auckland apartment. Prioritising high quality fittings, flooring and furniture, Monique has created an oasis of calm. By adopting neutral tones and a minimal interior style, the apartment feels high-end, in keeping with its trendy location. This considered approach to renovation has maximised what can be achieved in a smaller home.
Simplicity characterises Monique’s home. In the kitchen and living space, Monique opted for the Quick-Step Largo in ‘Cambridge Oak Natural’. The long planks in the Largo range have the unique ability to trick the eye into believing the space is bigger than it is. Which is great in multi-use spaces. Furthermore, you can use laminate in conjunction with a noise reducing underlay – perfect for apartment living. The oak flooring works beautifully with the bright white kitchen Monique installed as well as the wall mounted storage in the living area. Keeping the walls free of adornments, aside from a large round mirror, accentuates the height of the ceiling and all the more sunshine can fill the apartment.
Monique updated her bedroom flooring with carpet to create a space of tranquillity and cosiness. The Tussore carpet in ‘Sumac’ helps the room feel bigger as well as adding to the sense of calm. The combination of soft white linen bedding with hints of greenery throughout the room mimic the pretty olive trees adjacent to Monique’s balcony. Tussore from Cavalier Bremworth is a favourite amongst interior designers. It’s distinct for its chunky yet refined loop pile construction and the raw silk slubbing effect appearing randomly throughout the carpet. Together it creates a gorgeous striated look on the floor. The Tussore range is made in New Zealand from 100% pure New Zealand wool and is exclusive to selected Flooring Xtra stores.
