Perched high on the rugged, west coast cliffs overlooking the Tasman Sea in Pihama, Matt and Bailee have created a completely off grid hideaway. Just an hour’s drive from New Plymouth, this Air BnB has been designed to be the perfect space for guests to switch off and immerse themselves in the spectacular view.
The spaces within the hideaway are cleverly divided into zones, each with a different purpose. And each zone reminds guests for the purpose of their visit; to reset. The mini monochrome kitchen and The Nest’s lighting and heating is all powered by natural gas and solar power. Matt and Bailee designed The Nest as a way to educate guests on the benefits and limitations of solar power and encourage mindfulness of power consumption.
As a guest you can cook, bathe, sleep and lounge without missing out on any aspect of the view. The Studio Traffic 250 range as used in Matt and Bailee’s Air BnB is a durable range of wood and mineral look vinyl flooring. The vinyl surface is treated with a polyurethane coating, making it extremely tough and resistant to wear and scratching. This coating makes it easy to clean so whether you’re between guests in your own guesthouse venture or you’re after something low maintenance for your own home, vinyl is a comfortable and durable choice.
The ‘Warm Oak Soft Brown’ colour-way as chosen by Matt and Bailee melts into the natural palette they’ve used throughout their guesthouse. The calming white linen bedding with sandy and dark grey accent pillowcases and throws beautifully mirror the endless view from the black sand beaches below the cliff. There’s a nod to classic coastal-inspired design with the tongue and groove lining throughout the space; all brought up to date with white window frames, black hardware and abstract artwork. You can simply move from the cosiness of the bed to the comfort of the sofa all the while drinking in the incredible surroundings.
