Wools of New Zealand

Flooring Xtra shares a similar story to Wool of New Zealand, one of families and local ownership, so when we were approached to partner with the new carpet manufacturing brand, it felt like the perfect fit. We are excited to be the exclusive launch partner of Wools of New Zealand, bringing our customers beautifully crafted natural homegrown wool carpet, through our 61 stores across New Zealand.

Wools of New Zealand will be the first carpet brand to have grown their own wool fibre and taken a finished product to market. By taking control of the entire supply chain Wools of New Zealand have succeeded in making quality wool carpets available to all Kiwi’s at prices they can realistically afford to pay.

100% New Zealand owned

Wools of New Zealand is 100% owned by the Kiwi farming families who grow the wool, made up of 720 Kiwi wool growing families connected to local communities up and down the country.

Beautifully homegrown

Each year Wools of New Zealand grow 14.5 million kilograms of wool, producing quality fibre that is 100% traceable back to the farms the wool has been grown on. Wools of New Zealand know the wool in their carpets has been sustainably produced and that farmers take their responsibility to the environment seriously. They know this because they are the farmers. Through a unique integrity programme, carpet buyers have peace of mind knowing that farmers have maintained the very highest standards in animal welfare and environmental farming practises at all times.

By being accountable, traceable, and sustainable at all times, Wools of New Zealand aims to lead the world in growing the highest quality wool fibre in the most environmentally responsible way. New Zealand has the ideal climate to grow wool, and our 26 million sheep have been bred to produce the specific fibre types needed for interior textiles and clothing. Thanks to our climate, sheep, and farming practices, New Zealand sheep grow whiter, more consistent wool, and produce more wool per sheep than their cousins in other parts of the world.

Wool for wellness

There are many health benefits of including wool fibres within our living environments. As well as being warm and comfortable, wool carpets effectively trap dust and allergens in the carpet fibre, holding them until they are removed with a vacuum. This prevents them from irritating our respiratory systems by keeping them out of the breathing zone.

Wool carpet has been shown to rapidly neutralise
formaldehyde, nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide, common contaminants in today’s indoor environment. Not only does wool neutralise these contaminants quickly, but it also doesn’t re-emit them, even when heated. Wool carpet can continue purifying the air for up to 30 years.

Inherently flame resistant, wool carpet offers an exceptional level of fire safety. Due to its high nitrogen and water content, wool is very difficult to ignite, is self-extinguishing and generally just smoulders. This slows the spread of fire through a home.

Soft on the planet

Wool has incredible benefits to human health and for the planet. Wool is a 100% renewable fibre that we grow in New Zealand. It is in plentiful supply and has been developed over centuries to be the perfect fibre for carpet, with 14 times lower carbon impact than plastic.

Wool is an animal fibre that occurs naturally as the fleece of a sheep. New Zealand has an ideal climate where sheep live a free-range lifestyle, producing extremely good quality wool. As New Zealand sheep farming is very advanced, we have 30% lower carbon footprint than wool grown in the UK.
