Contemporary Barn in Te Awamutu
06 May, 2021
After living in a 100 square metre house, Amy’s wish for her new build home was to have open plan living, high stud ceilings, enough room for her boys to play and a home that can stand up to what they may throw at it.
Best described as a contemporary barn design, this home nestled on lush farmland in Te Awamutu is striking yet restful at the same time. Finishing details and the styling of the home is refreshingly light handed as a specific trend hasn’t being bought into, enabling this home to transcend fashions that come and go.
A key design element of this home is the exposed timber beams soring 3.8m high for the raking ceiling, as after all what barn style home is complete without exposed beams? These reclaimed trusses were sourced from a factory built in the 1900’s. Another key feature in the home is the brickwork on both external and internal walls. Amy sourced these from Christchurch, introducing a hint of natural earthy colour to the otherwise monochrome scheme.
Working in with these pared down and calming design elements, is Cavalier Bremworth carpet Levante in colour Glazed Grey in the bedrooms of this home. The little loop baubles bring another textural element to the space, giving the scheme depth and visual interest. The wool carpet is dyed and throws hints of grey and earthy brown flecks, creating a rustic feel that is perfectly balanced by the tailored precision loops, which keep the style contemporary enough for this home.
