The Strata is a loom-knotted New Zealand wool rug, combining a dense cut pile with hand-carved linework inspired by the layered contours of sculpted terrain. The clay-toned surface reveals subtle shifts of light and shadow, creating quiet depth and movement without overpowering a space.

Where a rug has been handwoven, which the large majority of our rugs are, the GoodWeave certification brings you peace of mind that your rug has been woven by a skilled artisan who has been paid a fair wage, and works in clean and safe conditions. It also guarantees absolutely no child labour has been used.

Keeping children off looms is one of the key focuses of GoodWeave and a percentage of the rug’s price is attributed to supporting children’s education in weaving communities and rescuing children in trapped labour.

The globally recognised programme has been carrying out this important work for over 20 years, the founder receiving a Nobel Peace Prize for the extraordinary initiative.

Your handwoven Baya rug will carry a GoodWeave label which displays a unique code certifying that it has been constructed ethically and fairly, traceable back to producer. We implore you to ensure that any handwoven rug that you purchase carries this GoodWeave certification.
